FIDIC 2017, Sub-Clause 20.2. The claiming Party gives a Notice of Claim as soon as practicable and no later than 28 days after it became aware, or should have become aware, of the event (20.2.1). If it is late, the claim is time-barred, and the Engineer has 14 days from receiving the late notice to say so (20.2.2). A fully detailed Claim follows within 84 days of awareness (20.2.4), including the contractual and legal basis; if the legal basis is not given within the 84 days, the Notice of Claim lapses. The Engineer then proceeds under Sub-Clause 3.7: 42 days to reach agreement, and a determination within 42 days after that. Where the effect continues, the first detailed claim is interim, further interim claims follow monthly, and the final claim is due within 28 days after the end of the effects (20.2.6).
FIDIC 1999, Sub-Clause 20.1. Notice within 28 days after the Contractor became aware, or should have become aware, of the event; a late notice loses the entitlement. A fully detailed claim within 42 days after awareness; for a continuing effect, monthly interim claims and a final claim within 28 days after the end of the effects. The Engineer responds within 42 days after receiving the claim.
