What the 14 checks mean

The DCMA 14-point assessment was developed by the US Defense Contract Management Agency and is now the most widely used test of schedule quality on construction projects. Engineers and consultants use it to decide whether a programme can be relied on for progress reporting and delay analysis.

  1. Logic: incomplete activities without a predecessor or successor, no more than 5%.
  2. Leads: relationships with negative lag, none allowed.
  3. Lags: relationships with positive lag, no more than 5%.
  4. Relationship types: at least 90% finish-to-start.
  5. Hard constraints: no more than 5% of activities.
  6. High float: total float above 44 working days on no more than 5%.
  7. Negative float: none.
  8. High duration: durations above 44 working days on no more than 5%.
  9. Invalid dates: actual dates after the data date or forecast dates before it, none.
  10. Resources: activities with duration should carry resources or costs.
  11. Missed tasks: activities planned to finish by the data date that finished late or not at all, no more than 5%.
  12. Critical path test: delaying the critical path delays completion (run in Chronaxis).
  13. CPLI: critical path length index, 0.95 or more.
  14. BEI: baseline execution index, 0.95 or more.

BEI and missed tasks use the planned dates stored in the file. For a comparison against your accepted baseline, load both programmes in Chronaxis.
