Planner answers
How do you prepare a recovery programme?
Short answer: Start from the latest update, find the activities that drive the finish, then shorten them where crews really can (more crews, a second shift) and overlap work only where the logic allows. Keep approvals and authority work as they are, re-schedule after every change, and state the resources each change needs.
- Agree the target: the contract completion, a milestone or a number of days.
- Take the driving path from the latest update.
- Shorten the cheapest activities first - usually long activities where an extra crew gives a big saving - and re-schedule after each change, because new critical paths appear.
- Overlap only finish-to-start links where work can run in different areas.
- Do not shorten approvals, authority inspections, deliveries or curing.
- List every change with the crew or shift it needs, and the risks.
Chronaxis builds this automatically as a target plan from each progress report, with an XER to check in P6 and a letter to propose it to the Engineer.
