What are BEI and CPLI in schedule analysis?

Short answer: BEI (Baseline Execution Index) is the number of activities completed divided by the number that should have been completed by now; below 0.95 means the work is falling behind. CPLI (Critical Path Length Index) compares the remaining critical path length plus total float with the remaining length; below 0.95 means completion is at risk.

  • BEI = activities actually finished ÷ activities with a baseline finish on or before the data date.
  • CPLI = (critical path length + total float of the critical path) ÷ critical path length, measured from the data date to the contract finish.

Both are part of the DCMA 14-point check. A falling BEI over several updates is an early warning that the forecast will slip even if the critical path still looks fine.
